Field Trip to the Frye

The Frye Art Museum offers student-centered programs, utilizing inquiry-based teaching to encourage art discovery and to build 21st century skills both inside and outside of the classroom. Programs are designed to nurture a learner-centered environment and support Washington State Learning Standards. Visits to the Museum can serve as stand-alone programs or work in conjunction with Art in Your Classroom.

Guided Visit + Art-Making

Offered Tuesday–Thursday, select Mondays and Fridays, October–June

Grades Pre-K-Kindergarten: 10 am – 11:40 am
Grades 1-12: 10 am – 12 pm

Students will explore themes, media, and materials inspired by current exhibitions. Each visit includes a small-group gallery discussion and studio workshop.

Experienced Gallery Guides utilize an inquiry-based approach to facilitate student engagement with works of art. Students learn to look closely, share observations, and build connections to their personal lives. Our small ratio of Gallery Guides to students (typically 1:7) provides each student the opportunity to participate in group discussion throughout the tour.

Facilitated by an art educator, the hands-on art activity provides students the opportunity to explore materials and experiment with artistic processes. The art activity is designed to be open-ended yet closely aligned to the learning in the gallery tour.
