Dario Robleto: Alloy of Love and Heaven is Being a Memory to Others

If Dario Robleto’s work mixes art, death, and memory in evocative ways, so too does Heddy Honigmann’s award-winning 2006 film Forever, a documentary portrait of Père-Lachaise Cemetery in Paris. While beautifully photographing the graves of the famous (Chopin, Proust, Modigliani, Oscar Wilde) and the humble, Honigmann examines the living—pilgrims, widows, tourists—who haunt the graveyard, tending graves or memories. Peering into their worlds, she discovers the depth of their feelings about the departed; the result is, in her words, “a film about how beauty can console, forever.” This is a lyrical, constantly surprising look at—to quote Père-Lachaise resident Jim Morrison—”the end.” Screened in DVD projection.
